"If you’ve ever wondered what possible difference Jory or Willakenzie vineyard dirt could make in a finished bottle of wine, just taste these two wines, The Fire and The Flood, side by side." Katherine Cole, The Oregonian
Chapter 24 Vineyards is pleased to offer The Fire and The Flood celebrating the two iconic soil types of the Willamette Valley.
The Fire: Iron red soils created from the volcanic eruptions of the Cascade Volcanic Arc underlie some of Oregon’s most iconic vineyard sites. The vineyards of the Dundee Hills, Eola Hills and higher elevation sites in the McMinnville AVA and the Oregon Coast Range produce grapes of a most uncommon character.
The Flood: Ice-blue waters of the Columbia River exploded through the ice damn of Glacial Lake Missoula unleashing the cataclysmic floods that swept down the Willamette Valley and out to the Pacific. The Missoula Floods left behind a blend of river rock, glacial debris and rich river soils throughout the Willamette Valley.
